As promised in the previous post, we’ll present a series of posts focused on the Azure Identity category, which includes the Microsoft Azure products focused on security solutions. The idea is to present the options available through this product and how identity tools support Microsoft Office in offering collaboration and productivity solutions without leaving security behind. In upcoming posts, we’ll present the concepts of each tool, as well as how to get started with planning and configuring each one.
In this post, we’ll cover the concept of the tools offered by the Azure Identity category and their applications.
What Is Azure Identity?
Azure Identity is the category of Azure tools focused on identity management, providing security for applications, infrastructure, and access on the Azure platform. For more information, access this link.
Microsoft Entra ID: Microsoft Entra ID is the identity and access management service created to support access to SaaS (Software as a Service) applications for organizations’ internal applications as well as external ones, such as Microsoft Office 365 and the Azure portal.
Azure Directory for Domain Services: Azure ADDS enables domain services fully compatible with Windows Server Active Directory, such as: joining devices to the domain, policy management, and LDAP authentication, as well as Kerberos/NTLM. This feature offers the convenience of using domain resources for applications or virtual servers in Azure, avoiding the effort of maintaining domain controller servers.
Microsoft Entra Multifactor Authentication: Multifactor authentication strengthens security with verification and access control for portals and applications, adding a second layer of identity validation. MFA enables the second validation using the Microsoft Authenticator app, mobile apps, hardware tokens, SMS, or a phone call.
Azure Active Directory B2C: Azure AD B2C (Business-to-Customer) is an identity management service that allows the administrator/developer to control user access in web, mobile, desktop, or single-page applications. B2C enables sign-up, sign-in, password reset, and profile editing in applications developed by the business or by third parties.
Azure Information Protection: Azure Information Protection is a security solution that enables information classification and, based on that classification, helps protect information, preventing improper leakage of information within the company. Information classification can be done by users at a granular level or by administrators, through policies in the Azure portal using labels.
Azure Security Information: Considering the need to ensure security when accessing services and applications stored in the Cloud or on-premises, Azure Security Information is the combination of several authentication and access control solutions, and it integrates with all layers of application, infrastructure, and client access, helping prevent unauthorized access to these resources.
